Coming home: explore the new menu at Dabbawal

This October Dabbawal is celebrating a milestone. Eighteen years after introducing Indian street food to the city, we are marking our birthday with a fresh new menu, and a renewed focus on the treasures of the Indian home kitchen.

Since we opened, we have been championing the best of regional Indian dishes and flavours. Now we’re going back to the heart of what inspired us in the first place.

It all started with a very special story: the dabbawalas. 

Come lunchtime, these exceptional delivery men carry food to office workers across Mumbai. Their ‘dabbas’, or lunchboxes, contain home-cooked treasures made from recipes stretching back generations. 

Dabbawal has always been about sharing the magic of home-cooked meals delivered by the dabbawalas over decades. Over the years we’ve collected a great many treasured recipes. Now we are telling the stories behind them.
